Baidu to Launch Intelligent Electric Vehicle Company with Geely

Chinese Internet behemoth Baidu today announced its plan to partner with auto manufacturer Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, establishing a company that will produce intelligent electric vehicles (EV).

Baidu will provide intelligent driving capabilities powering the vehicles, while Geely will contribute its expertise in automobile manufacturing.

The new company, which will operate as an independent subsidiary of Baidu, will oversee the entire industrial chain, from vehicle design to research and development, as well as manufacturing, sales and services.

Baidu is set to support the company’s growth with a full portfolio of core technologies, including its Apollo autonomous driving, DuerOS for Apollo, and Baidu Maps. Drawing on Baidu’s leading AI technologies and its eight years of experience in intelligent transportation, the new firm aims to reshape intelligent vehicle offerings and bring about change in intelligent transportation.
