BYD and Daimler’s JV Launches High-End D9 MPV

Denza, a joint venture established by BYD and Daimler AG, officially launched the D9 MPV model on the evening of August 23. The new product adds a pure electric vehicle to the previous pre-sale versions. The model is available in DM-i super hybrid and pure electric versions, with a total of six versions spanning a price range of 329,800 yuan to 459,800 yuan ($48,058 – $67,003), and 99 limited-edition units for a price of 660,000 yuan. The new car will start delivery next month.

The Denza D9 is positioned to be a medium to large-sized high-end new energy MPV, and it adopts a brand-new design language coded “π-Motion.” The length, width and height of the vehicle are 5250/1960/1920mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 3110mm. Equipped with a UWB key, the rear door can be inductively opened from a distance of eight meters.

In terms of the interior, the new car adopts an encircling central control layout, which is matched with a full LCD dashboard, a suspended central control screen with a maximum of 17.3 inches, an entertainment system, two armrest screens and two HUD (head-up) displays. The car is also equipped with the “Denza Pilot” intelligent auxiliary driving system.

The DM version adopts the DM-i super hybrid technology, with a comprehensive battery life of 1,040 km and a maximum pure electric battery life of 190 km. It can be powered by fuel and by electricity, and the fuel consumption per 100 km is as low as 5.9 liters. The car supports 80kW DC fast charging, and can be charged from 30% to 80% in 25 minutes.

On the other hand, the EV version is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, equipped with an eight-in-one electric powertrain, a high-efficiency heat pump, and a BYD blade battery. The maximum battery life of the CLTC can reach more than 600 km and the battery life can reach 150 km after charging for 10 minutes.

It is worth mentioning that Denza also unveiled a medium-sized SUV concept car at the launch event, and plans to make its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show.
