DiDi Volunteer Fleets Provide Free Transportation for Medical Workers and Communities in Wuhan

Didi Chuxing started serving the city of Wuhan through two special fleets on January 25 after normal public transit and ride-hailing services were halted in the city in response to the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) epidemic.

A special fleet of DiDi drivers dressed in protective uniforms and driving regularly disinfected vehicles now offers around the clock free transportation to all hospital staff in Wuhan. The move was devised upon consultation with the local authorities and medical staff of a number of hospitals.

There is now also a community fleet supported by 1,336 volunteer drivers servicing local authorities and neighborhood committees. Earlier, it was announced that the authorities were planning to assemble a taxi fleet of 6,000 to serve Wuhan citizens’ mobility needs.

According to people familiar with the matter, DiDi has been distributing face masks and disinfectants to drivers across China since last week. The company urges all drivers and passengers to wear masks, while drivers are required to disinfect and ventilate their vehicles regularly.
