EV Firm Avatr Signs Strategic Cooperation Deal With Huawei

At the 2022 Chongqing Auto Show, Avatr, an automobile brand jointly built by Changan Automobile, CATL and Huawei, signed a new comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement on Saturday with Huawei.

The two sides reached agreement in fields such as optimal resource investment and Huawei HI trademark licensing, and will work together to build a series of high-end intelligent EVs based on the new-generation intelligent EV technology platform CHN. Four new models will be launched by 2025.

According to Chinese enterprise data platform Tianyancha, Changan Automobile and CATL are the top and second-largest shareholders of Avatr respectively, with shareholding ratios of 39.02% and 28.99%.

Huawei has repeatedly stated that it will not build cars, but would cooperate with car companies in two aspects. One is to cooperate with three car companies to build sub-brands with Huawei Inside (HI). In other words, Huawei provides comprehensive intelligent car solutions, namely Changan Automobile, BAIC and GAC. The other is the Huawei Smart Selection model, which is involved in design and provides sales channels, and the representative model is the AITO built in cooperation with Seres.

The Avatr 11 comprehensively carries Huawei’s intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, intelligent network connection, intelligent electronics, intelligent vehicle cloud services and other solutions. It is capable of a range of at least 700 km, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, has 200 kW high-voltage super-fast charging and 400 Tops computing power.

Another contract signed between Avatr and Huawei is intended to further deepen the cooperation based on their previous tripartite cooperation. Changan Automobile also said that Avatr’s first experience centers will be officially opened in the third quarter of this year, and it is working with Huawei to implement the preparation of its store channels.

Eric Xu, Huawei’s rotating chairman, said that after Huawei made up its mind to start its automotive business, he visited almost all the chairs and CEOs of Chinese car companies. During this period, he found out more about Huawei’s positioning in the automotive industry. “China does not lack Huawei-branded cars, but it lacks real core technology automotive component suppliers,” he said.
