Huawei HiSilicon to Sell 4G Communication Chip Balong 711

Recently, Huawei‘s chip company HiSilicon (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd. announced it will sell its 4G communication IoT chip – the Huawei Hisilicon LTE Cat4 platform Balong 711 for the first time. The Balong 711 sets include three chips: baseband chip Hi2152, RF chip Hi6361, and power management chip Hi6559.

According to HiSilicon, the Balong 711 chip supports Open CPU, with a variety of solutions, covering asset tracking, bike sharing, POS card swiping, etc. At the same time, the module has various hardware interfaces, that supports Gigabit Ethernet, multi-channel UART, SDIO, PCM, PCIe and other interfaces. It can be widely used in both traditional and new areas including industrial routing, Internet of Vehicles (IoV), new retail, and the sharing economy.

According to HiSilicon, the Balong 711 chip is one of the earliest 4G Modem chips and has been certified by over 100 mainstream operators worldwide. With the assistance of the Balong 711 chip with global certification, strong internet compatibility, and stable network performance, partners of HiSilicon are able to quickly open up to the global market.

It is known that HiSilicon’s internal positioning in Huawei is mainly to serve the Chinese tech giant. Huawei also previously stated that its smartphone chip, the Kirin series, was not for sale. According to ithome, there are three main reasons that HiSilicon has chosen to sell IoT chip to the open market this time. First, it aims to tap the demand of the clients under various IoT scenarios featuring high transfer rates and large broadband requirements. Secondly, it would enhance the company’s openness and ecological capabilities, providing downstream module manufacturers and partners with more complete solutions and choices. The third reason is simply for increasing revenue.
