HUAWEI Launches IdeaHub Board for Android, to Work with HarmonyOS and Windows

Chinese tech giant Huawei launched on Wednesday, IdeaHub Board, a new product meant as a collaboration whiteboard for smart office and education. It features innovative functions including wireless projection and smart writing to enhance user experience across interactive working and teaching scenarios.

Its dropdown bar projection function, based on the Cast+ technology, allows users to project content from a phone to a large screen without installing additional apps. Alternatively, users can control their phones from the large screen, while IdeaHub makes sure that information safety is not compromised during the projection.

To create a smooth writing experience, IdeaHub Board adopts zero-gap bonding technology, and innovative software capabilities to deliver an ultra-low writing latency of 35 ms. This makes writing on the Board as easy as writing on paper, while the intelligent text and graphic recognition and email sharing functions trump traditional whiteboards by many folds.

The projector displays images, while the whiteboard is purely for writing. What Huawei’s Board aims for is using one screen to achieve multiple functions, including the possibility of remote communication, instant-sharing functions and more.

This is the first product of its kind to feature optical anti-blue light technology, which eliminates harmful blue light and color cast to create a safe and vivid visual experience. The idea of going after top-notch visuals comes from the concerns associated with our growing dependence on digital screens.

Sun Quan, president of Huawei’s intelligent collaboration field, recently said that in the post-epidemic era, companies need to embrace novel ways of work collaboration. Huawei’s business strategy is “end-cloud collaboration to build a full-scenario smart office ecosystem”. Through a full range of smart collaboration products, it connects Huawei Cloud and HarmoneyOS ecosystem, providing users with a wealth of products and one-stop solutions to meet the needs of all enterprises.

However, gaining a foothold in the Chinese educational field is a big challenge, as traditional non-smart tools such as projectors, whiteboards and markers still dominate the classroom. Zhang Qiaoming, VP of Intelligence Collaboration products line, believes that the interactive methods of education should be diversified. In his view, this is the time for collaborative boards to shine. In the future, intelligent tools offering versatile solutions could replace projectors on a large scale. This is especially since the pandemic is accelerating the spread of digital learning, with both office and teaching scenarios requiring more frequent digital interactions and convenience.

IdeaHub Board currently supports the Android system only, but may soon fit HarmonyOS, also known as HongmengOS in China. It is Huawei’s in-house creation in 2012, and since the company lost most of its access to chip and software suppliers due to the export ban to the US, they have realized the importance of achieving software independence.

Originally developed for the Internet of Things, HarmonyOS is now a multiplatform OS that applies to smartphones, tablets, and laptops, and it is claimed to be 60% faster than Android.

In the future, IdeaHub Board will also provide options for Windows users.

Available in 65” and 86”, respectively priced 14,999 yuan and 39,999 yuan, HUAWEI IdeaHub Board is suitable for both floor and wall mount, and has been available for sale in China since March 17.
