Huawei Releases XMAGE Mobile Imaging Brand

Before the release of its nova 10 smartphone series, Huawei officially launched its new independent imaging brand, Huawei XMAGE on July 2, conveying the firm’s innovation and strength in the field of mobile imaging. XMAGE, together with existing imaging platform Huawei NEXT IMAGE, will together form a future-oriented mobile imaging brand.

Huawei, as the industry’s first manufacturer to introduce AI into mobile photography and one of the industry’s first to invest in computational photography, has been consistently innovating computational photography of mobile images. Huawei XMAGE has built a unique mobile imaging technology system in three dimensions: optical system, imaging technology, and image processing.

In terms of optical system, Huawei has created a free-form lens, periscopic telephoto, and multi-camera system, solving the problems of distortion and telephoto from the technical point of view. It realizes the effect of image capability at “1+1>2.” For example, the Huawei P50 comes with a new dual image unit, super main camera unit and super zoom unit. The P50 series systematically integrates the capabilities of multiple lenses, providing thin and light phones with powerful imaging capabilities.

In terms of imaging technology, Huawei has revolutionized the conventional CMOS by replacing the RGGB pixel arrangement with the RYYB array since the P30 series. This significantly improves the efficiency of light intake. When it comes to the P40, the larger sensor paired with the RYYB light-sensitive pixel matrix and support for 50MP dual-pixel focusing technology makes it possible to achieve ultra-clear images across the full focal length and time frame. In addition, the full pixel octa-core focus and multi-spectral sensor are all important components of the imaging technology.

As for image processing, AI photography, real-time HDR fusion, and XD Fusion Pro allow Huawei images to faithfully record the light and shadows of the physical world. In 2017, the Huawei Mate10 became equipped with Kirin 970, the world’s first AI chip, introducing AI photography for the first time in the series.

The Huawei NEXT IMAGE culture brand takes “young, warm, energetic, positive and advanced” as its new theme, focused on building the cultural connotation of the high-end brand. It is committed to creating a new image culture together with global Huawei cell phone users.
