One Dead after Tesla Sedan Crashes and Catches Fire in Guangzhou

A video of a Tesla catching fire following a traffic accident went viral Tuesday evening on Chinese social media networks. According to a report from the Guangzhou Daily, a Tesla sedan hit the concrete separator on the side of the road while trying to overtaking from the rear right. After the collision, in which one person was killed, the vehicle ignited in flames.

The accident occurred at about 22:00 on April 17, north of Dongjiang Avenue in the southern city’s Zengcheng District. After a preliminary investigation, it was found that the vehicle collided with the concrete wall on the right side of the road, as well as another car. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Tesla has confirmed that the accident occurred, and that it immediately established a line of cooperation with the traffic police to investigate the incident.

Tesla has been widely discussed recently due to a consumer rights protection incident that took place at this week’s Shanghai Auto Show.
