OPPO Partners With América Móvil to Expand in Latin America

OPPO on Thursday announced a strategic partnership with América Móvil, the largest telecom operator in Latin America, aiming to expand its presence in the Latin American smartphone market.

According to the agreement, OPPO will distribute its smartphone products through América Móvil’s subsidiaries Telcel and Claro to Mexico and other regions across Latin America.

“OPPO is pleased to launch a strategic cooperation with América Móvil, which will allow local consumers to have a quality communications experience,” said Alen Wu, OPPO’s Vice President and President of Global Sales. “This collaboration represents an important achievement for OPPO in its development in Latin American and global markets.”

Samsung and Motorola currently dominate the Latin American smartphone market. According to data from Counterpoint Research, Samsung held a 37.9% share of the market in the first quarter of 2020, while Motorola had a share of 14.1%. OPPO’s domestic rivals Huawei and Xiaomi were also among the top five smartphone vendors in the region in the first quarter.

OPPO has established cooperation with over 80 network operators across the globe. It has formed partnerships with a series of leading global carriers this year and made progress in foreign markets like Europe and Japan. The Shanghai-based company is planning to develop more partnerships with major carriers across Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America in the next one or two years.
