Over Half of Huawei’s 5G Contracts are From Europe

As one German telecom operator Telefonica announced that they will use Huawei’s technologies to build a 5G network, Huawei marched a step further into the European market.

According to Huawei, of their over 60 5G commercial contract, 32 came from Europe.

“There are now 40 telecom operators which have launched their 5G network. By the end of this year, there will be over 60 of them in countries all over the world,” said Ken Hu, deputy chairman of Huawei.

Huawei 5G product line president Yang Chaojun confirmed that the company is also working with Swiss telecommunications company Sunrise to establish the first 5G joint innovation center in Europe. “Although Switzerland has strict limits over the power, Huawei and Sunrise’s cooperation has covered more than 300 cities and towns in the country,” Yang said.

Telefonica said that they need certain certificates to finalize the cooperation with Huawei and Nokia. Once it’s done, they will start building networks in the beginning of 2020. The company plans to start offering 5G services at the end of 2021, while their services are expected to support 30 cities by the end of 2022.
