Pony.ai’s New Robotaxi Debuts in Beijing

On April 14th, Pony.ai announced that the new generation Robotaxi model has successfully launched in Beijing. The vehicles are based on the Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS (S-AM) model and have accumulated over 50,000 kilometers of road testing mileage.

The Robotaxi model that successfully hit the road this time is equipped with the sixth-generation autonomous driving hardware system from Pony.ai. It includes four solid-state LiDARs, three supplementary LiDARs, three millimeter-wave radars, and eleven cameras.

In addition, the new generation of Robotaxi vehicles have significantly improved performance in various extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, fog and sandstorms through a self-developed sensor cleaning system.

Pony.ai officials stated that thanks to policy support, this batch of vehicles is expected to soon enter the road testing phase for fully autonomous driving, covering a 60 square kilometer area in Beijing’s Yizhuang core area and busy periods such as morning rush hour. Subsequently, they will provide Robotaxi autonomous driving services for residents in the demonstration zone.
