Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

Qualcomm launched two new mobile platforms on Friday – Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, empowering flagship and high-end Android smartphones.

Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1

As Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 is slated to bring a vastly improved experience to end users. Many OEM manufacturers and brands around the world are already waiting to adopt the new chipset, including Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE, among many others. Commercial terminals equipped with the chipset are expected to be available by the third quarter of 2022.

Containing the full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will deliver an ultra-smooth responsiveness, color-rich HDR scenes at the highest visual quality, and desktop-level capabilities. With an improved Qualcomm Adreno GPU, the Snapdragon 8+ will provide up to 10% faster speeds and 30% power reduction to deliver the ultimate gameplay experience. The new chipset also features a Qualcomm Kryo CPU with up to 10% faster processing and up to 30% improvement in power efficiency.

The latest in Snapdragon Sight technologies will also be used as it is capable of capturing images in the premium HDR10+ format that’s loaded with over a billion shades of color.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

OEM manufacturers and brands including Honor, OPPO and Xiaomi will adopt the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, with commercial devices expected to be available in Q2 2022.

The Snapdragon 7 features select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, such as the Adreno Frame Motion Engine, which can double the frame rate to upscale content while maintaining the same power consumption. The improved Adreno GPU delivers more than 20% faster graphics rendering. This platform also supports an immersive Quad HD+ Display and amplified audio featuring anti-howling for multi-player gaming.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will feature a Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP so users can shoot simultaneously from three cameras or take photos at an astounding 200MP – a first in the Snapdragon 7 series.

Combining the Snapdragon 7’s camera capabilities with its 7th gen Qualcomm AI Engine, devices will be able to utilize Deep Learning Face Detection, based on 300 facial landmarks, which will allow for a much more accurate auto focus.

In terms of security, the new chipset will include a dedicated Trust Management Engine and Android Ready SE – a Snapdragon 7-series first – prioritizing the safety and protection of users’ information.
