Senior Executive of Huawei’s Intelligent Vehicle Business Resigns

LatePost reported on July 12 that Chen Yilun, the chief architect of the Intelligent Driving Product Department of Huawei’s Intelligent Vehicle Solutions Division, has recently resigned.

Chen holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University and a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Before joining Huawei, Chen worked as a technical expert and project manager at Eaton, an intelligent power management company, and joined drone firm DJI as a chief engineer in 2017.

In 2018, Chen joined Huawei as the chief scientist of its Automated Driving Department, responsible for sensing technology. At present, Huawei’s Intelligent Vehicle Solutions Division has 15 secondary departments, including the Intelligent Driving Product Department, Intelligent Car Control Product Department and Intelligent Car Cloud Product Department.

When Chen joined Huawei, the Shenzhen-based tech giant had just started to promote in-depth cooperation with car companies. In November 2018, Huawei signed a cooperation agreement with BAIC BJEV. In May 2019, Huawei established its Intelligent Vehicle Solutions Division, which is affiliated with the ICT Management Committee. Since then, Huawei has started to further promote cooperation with car companies.

In October 2020, Huawei released the smart car solution “Huawei Inside” model, which includes a computing and communication architecture and five systems including intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, intelligent electricity, intelligent and connected vehicles and intelligent car cloud services, and more than 30 smart components.

On November 15, 2020, Huawei divided its Intelligent Vehicle Solutions Division from the ICT Management Committee to its Consumer BG. After that, Huawei promoted the “Huawei Smart Selection” mode that is deeply bound to car companies. In April last year, Huawei signed a cooperation agreement with Sokon Group and launched the Seres SF5 equipped with Huawei HiCar and the “HUAWEI DriveONE” system. In December last year, the two parties further upgraded their cooperation by establishing a new brand of new energy vehicles, AITO.

Almost at the same time, She Xiaoli, the chief functional safety expert, joined NIO as an internal expert in algorithm research.
