Sneak Peak of Xiaomi’s Redmi S2 with 12 MP dual AI Cameras

On May 5, according to IT Home, a Chinese language tech news media, Xiaomi has officially announced that the Redmi S2 launch conference will be held in Suning.com’s Nanjing headquarters on May 10. Xiaomi revealed images of the newest budget smartphone for the first time on its official Weibo account, showing that the phone is equipped with 12 MP dual AI cameras.

According to Redmi S2 teaser posters, the new smartphone will come in red, blue and several other colour options for users to choose from.

The Redmi S2 is a standard budget phone priced at 1,000 yuan ($157) and is equipped with vertically positioned dual cameras and fingerprint recognition at the back. The three-segment body design typical of the Redmi series was not applied to the latest S2 model. Instead, it uses the split U-shaped antenna design on top with a full aluminium body.

According to IT Home, the Redmi S2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ (720 x 1440 pixel) display, a 3000mAh battery and the 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor. The smartphone will come in 2GB, 3GB and 4GB RAM variants, and have 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options, all with option to add 256GB microSD cards. It will run MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
