Tesla Opens First Store in China’s Xinjiang

Tesla announced today the opening of its first store in the city of Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwest China, marking the beginning of the US electric vehicle maker’s offline store and service network presence in the region.

Xiao Lu, Tesla’s head of Northwest China, said that the center is an important starting point for Tesla to develop its service network in Xinjiang, which not only provides one-stop service for local consumers, but also continuously spreads the concept of environmental protection to this region.

The new facility is Tesla’s westernmost store in the Chinese mainland, covering 1,620 square meters and capable of offering pre-sales consultation, test drive appointment, new car testing, insurance consultation, temporary license handling, after-sales maintenance and other services for consumers in Urumqi and surrounding areas.

Xinjiang currently has nearly 50,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs), and Urumqi saw a 298.29% year-on-year increase in NEV sales in the first seven months of 2021.

The store is also Tesla’s 11th in Northwest China and 211th in the Chinese mainland. Tesla currently has stores in 60 cities across the mainland.

Moreover, Tesla currently operates seven supercharger stations in Xinjiang, including 36 individual superchargers. It also has six destination charging stations in the region, offering 12 charging pads. It already has two supercharger stations in Urumqi, offering 14 superchargers to ensure the excellent driving experience of car owners.
