Alibaba Cloud Opens Two Data Centers in the UK, Expanding Its EMEA Businesses

Alibaba<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder /> Cloud, or Aliyun, the cloud computing subsidiary of China’s tech giant Alibaba<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder /> Group, opened its first data centers in the United Kingdom on Oct. 22, catering to the growing demand for its services in Europe.

The data centers will allow clients to upgrade their digital infrastructure and improve operational efficiency, and provide them with security, engineering support, and real-time monitoring.

Wang Yeming, general manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions for Alibaba<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder /> Cloud introduced the functions of the new data centers. He says, “Using AI-powered and data-driven technology, our latest data centers will offer customers complete access to our wide range of cloud services from machine-learning capabilities to predictive data analytics.”

According to a spokesperson for Alibaba<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder /> Cloud, the decision to station two data centers in the United Kingdom in addition to the existing ones in Frankfurt and Dubai was part of the company’s expansion plan into Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Similar to the other two facilities, the UK data centers will offer 24/7 on-site support.

It is said that the advantage of having two facilities within one location was the ability to recover and maintain key IT infrastructures in the event of an unprecedented disaster.

With the two new additions in the UK, Alibaba<img decoding="async" class="trade-card__loading" layout="fixed" height="50" width="50" src="https://assets.pandaily.com/uploads/2021/12/loading.png" placeholder /> Cloud now operates 52 facilities in 19 regions around the globe, such as in the US, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and India.
