The Huawei Developer Competition, under the theme, “Spark Infinity”, was officially launched at the conference. As Huawei’s top competition for ICT, the Huawei Developer Competition has set up the Cloud Foundation Track and the Industry Track, covering six regions around the world and providing a prize pool of 5 million yuan ($744,500).

After the conference, Huawei received a group interview. Pandaily and other local media outlets put forward some questions about the collaboration frameworks.

Pandaily: Huawei Cloud has had strong domestic growth in China. Is the company also considering taking its business overseas, and what are the plans for internationalization in the next three to five years?

Jacqueline Shi (President of Huawei Cloud’s Global Marketing and Sales Service): Huawei Cloud aspires to be the world’s best cloud service provider. In the past year, we have successively established our operations in four major regions, including the Asia Pacific, Latin America, China and others. Now we have 27 regions, 65 availability zones, and more than 2,500 content distribution network (CDN) nodes, serving customers and partners in more than 170 countries and regions around the world. Huawei Cloud has always been expanding overseas markets and has accumulated a lot of experience in that area. Since 2018, we have deployed our regions in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia respectively. In September this year, our new regions in Indonesia will soon be put into service. Meanwhile, we will also deploy into countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Japan and South Korea with our data ingestion service.

Today, our CEO Mr. Zhang introduced infrastructure-level cloud services, namely a global KooVerse network. In the future, centering on the construction plan of a global intergrated network, we will take the initiative to further invest in cloud infrastructure to provide services for more countries and regions. Later this year, we will build regions in Ireland, Turkey and other countries. Later on, we will explore other options such as Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Egypt, Switzerland and others. In a word, Huawei Cloud has always been determined to be the best cloud service provider in the world. In the next three to five years, we will gradually increase our international layout and business promotion.

The Paper: I have been paying close attention to the topic of digital content production lines and digital characters that Huawei has been talking about today. Your company has not unveiled a complete metaverse strategy yet, so would you like to share something related to it with us? In addition, does the launch of digital characters mean that Huawei is increasing its investment in the metaverse? There are many kinds of digital characters on the market now. I’m wondering what your advantage is, or if you will face a relatively awkward situation after the launch?

Zhang Yuxin (CTO of Huawei Cloud): From a global perspective, the concept of the metaverse has exploded since last year, which I think is kind of due to publicity stunt. Huawei is based on technology, so we are not interested in the hype of technology. What we care about is whether we can grasp the essence behind the hype and grasp the technical basis through our own thinking.

We have a lot of technical upgrades to settle. At this conference, we further upgraded our services based on our digital content production line and MetaStudio, especially around the digital character, to support applications in virtual concerts, conferences, office collaboration, industrial production, and industrial digital twin.

Our goals in researching digital characters are to help improve the field and lower the threshold of the field. At present, the technical requirements are very high, whether in terms of resource consumption or real-time interaction.
