Chinese Government Praises JD Logistics and Rookie Logistics for their Contribution to Trade Efficiency

According to the official website of the Ministry of Commerce, in its recently released The 2016 Retrospect and Prospect of China’s Domestic Trade Development, MOFCOM praises JD Logistics, Rookie Logistics and a number of other modern logistics enterprises as they adopt informationized and intelligent means, innovate cooperation modes and constantly improve the efficiency of logistics distribution. Consequently, “same-day delivery” has become a new goal in distribution field.

The data show that in 2016, the main sectors of domestic trade had newly-added value as much as 9.6 trillion yuan, accounting for 12.9% of GDP, up by 0.3 percentage points than that of 2012. There were 60.2 million real market players, up by 40.3% than that of 2013. The total retail sales of consumer goods exceeded 33 trillion yuan, up by 55% than that of 2012, and the market scale of consumer goods ranked second in the world. The total sales of means of production were 60.4 trillion yuan, up by 7.3% than that of the previous year. The total social logistics cost accounted for 14.9% of GDP, down by 3.1 percentage points than that of 2012. The contribution rate of final consumption to economic growth was 64.6%, up by 9.7 percentage points than that of 2012.

The report showed that major sectors of domestic trade significantly accelerated their pace of “going out” in 2016. Their outward foreign direct investment in 2016 was $32.11 billion, up by 70.3% than previous year, accounting for 18.9% of OFDI. Among major sectors, the OFDI of wholesale and retail trade was $27.56 billion, up by 72% than 2015. The OFDI of hotels and catering industry amounted $1.8 billion, up by 216.6%. OFDI of neighborhood services, repairs and other services was $2.75 billion, up by 21.3%.

The cost of domestic trade logistics decreased continuously. The total cost of social logistics in 2016 was 11.1 trillion yuan, up by 2.9% than 2015. Though the growth rate of it in 2016 was 0.1 percentage point higher than the that in the previous year, but obviously lower than the growth rate of social logistics volume and GDP. The total social logistics cost accounted for 14.9% of GDP, down by 1.1% than 2015 and 3.1% than 2012, which showed a continuing downward trend. Through implementing standard trade logistics, integrated logistics costs of key enterprises in experimental cities reduced by 10%.​

​The efficiency of domestic trade logistics has been increasing steadily. The rapid development of transportation, information communication, finance and other facilities and technologies supports the rapid development of commodity flow, logistics, capital flow and information flow. JD Logistics, Rookie Logistics and a number of other modern logistics enterprises as they adopt informationized and intelligent means, innovate cooperation modes and constantly improve the efficiency of logistics distribution. Consequently, “same-day delivery” has become a new goal in distribution field.​

Sharing logistics of domestic trade is gaining momentum. Under the support of information technology, the shared economy characterized by high technology, high participation, low cost of resources allocation and high efficiency is on the rise and gaining momentum in logistics. Some electrical commerce platforms have actively explored the crowdsourcing of logistics. Depending on the mobile service terminal, companies could arrange deliveries and timely and conveniently meet consumers’ demand, which effectively solve the “last mile” problem of logistics delivery.
