NIO Teams Up with Sinopec to Build Charging and Swap Stations as Partnership Marks First Anniversary

The number of battery swap and charging stations built by NIO, an EV giant, and Sinopec Group, a Chinese fossil fuel giant, has totaled 175 since the partnership began on April 15 last year.

NIO said that this number includes 71 battery swap stations, 75 supercharging stations and 29 destination charging stations, covering 26 provincial regions and 72 cities. In addition to cooperating in the construction of charging facilities, the two sides have also worked together in areas such as the research and development of new materials for automobiles.

On April 15 last year, the chairman of Sinopec said that the company plans to build 5000 charging and swap stations by 2025 in order to consolidate its leading position in the vehicle energy market. As of Friday, NIO has laid out a total of 894 power swap stations in China, including 237 located on expressways.

NIO had explained last year that as the number of power swap stations increases, the distance vehicle owners have to travel to recharge has gone down. To illustrate the growth of the charging stations, as of July 31st, a total of 30.9% of NIO users are living in properties within a two-mile radius of a NIO battery swap station.
