Nubia Launches Red Magic 3 — A Budget-Friendly Gaming Powerhouse

Nubia launched their latest gaming phone, the Red Magic 3, in Beijing on Apr. 28. This is an affordable handset for frugal gamers who don’t want to compromise on either price or quality specs.

The Red Magic 3 has a very angular design with straight lines and angular edges. The back cover sports an RGB strip that lights up while gaming and when notifications are received.

The phone is rather large in size but doesn’t feel bulky. It features a 6.65-inch AMOLED display with full HD+ resolution. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate, delivering a smooth gaming experience visually. Most phones have a refresh rate sitting around 60Hz, making it difficult to spot a difference in smoothness. However, after getting used to 90Hz, 60Hz just isn’t the same anymore and appears jerky and rugged.

It comes with a Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a number of vents and a turbo fan to better dissipate heat during intense gaming sessions. Nubia states that the new cooling system increases heat transfer by a massive 500 percent.

Much like its predecessor, Red Magic 3 has shoulder triggers and the fingerprint sensor in the back doubles as an extra trigger.

It has the new Snapdragon 855 chipset clocked to 2.8GHz, an Adreno 640 GPU, along with up to 12 GB of RAM, shaping this device in a true powerhouse ready to take on the most demanding tasks.

As a gaming phone, one may come to expect compromises on the camera, but the Red Magic 3 impresses by housing a 48MP rear camera with a Sony IMX586 sensor. It can also shoot videos in 8K and slow motion up to 64 times.
