Huawei Claims Leading Position for 5G Commercial Contracts

China’s tech giant Huawei announced at a press conference on Dec. 18 that it has landed more than 25 contracts for 5G, which puts itself in a leading position in the global 5G commercial contracts.

According to Huawei’s rotating chairman Ken Hu, Huawei has shipped over 10,000 base stations for the next-generation mobile technology. Hu also stated that the company expects revenues to exceed $100 billion this year, which will be an 8.7 percent increase from last year’s $92 billion.

The day after the press conference, the telecom equipment supplier issued a statement from the company’s public and government affairs department to emphasize the progress it has been making in 5G technology and commercialization.

Contrary to inaccurate or misleading reports, Huawei’s overseas business is going well, according to the statement. In Germany, business is still on track. In France, the company is working with multiple network operators on 5G construction. Huawei is also participating in 5G tenders of Japanese carriers.

The situation in New Zealand is a little trickier since the government has barred Huawei in 5G networks, but the Chinese vendor said its clients will continue bargaining with the government and collaborate with Huawei.

The company also plans to launch 5G smartphone with 5G chip in the first half of 2019 and realize commercialization by the end of next year.
