On August 15th, according to the official WeChat account of Energy Singularity, the overall installation of the “Honghuang 70” high-temperature superconducting tokamak device has officially commenced. The “Honghuang 70” is designed, developed, and constructed by Energy Singularity, with the overall installation being undertaken by China Nuclear Industry Fifth Construction Co., Ltd.
According to the introduction, “Honghuang 70” is a fully high-temperature superconducting tokamak device designed and developed for Energy Singularity. It is planned to be completed and operational by the end of 2023. The entire magnet system of the “Honghuang 70” device, including toroidal field (TF) coils, poloidal field (PF) coils, and central solenoid (CS) coils, are constructed using high-temperature superconducting materials.
At that time, “Honghuang 70” will become the world’s first fully operational high-temperature superconducting tokamak device, leading in verifying the engineering feasibility of high-temperature superconducting tokamak technology at a complete device level.
According to public information, Energy Singularity Energy Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was established in June 2021. The legal representative is Yang Zhao, who graduated from Peking University with a bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2009 and obtained a Ph.D. from Stanford University’s Physics Department from 2013 to 2017. His research focuses on the intersection of quantum gravity and quantum information, as well as artificial intelligence and tensor networks.
The Energy Singularity has received investments from miHoYo and NIO Capital. The Energy Singularity focuses on the high-temperature superconducting tokamak technology route, and the first toroidal field (TF) magnet of the “Honghuang 70” high-temperature superconducting tokamak device was completed in July.
